At The Resort

At the Intercontinental Phuket, three is a lucky number—and not just because of the hotel’s street address. The entire architectural concept of the hotel, designed by Habita Architects, is based on the epic Traibhumikata, centering on the harmony between the three worlds of the heavens, the human dominion, and the underwater realms.

The soft sands of Kamala Beach serve as the gateway to the underwater world, and the underground tunnel that connects the swimming pool and the lobby represents the journey of the serpent-king Naga to the human realm. The worldly dominions are home to the Crystal Kingdom leading toward the Sawan Pavilion, where all three realms intersect as the lotus ponds around the sparkling pavilion reflect the blue sky above.

The concept of harmony goes beyond the inspired design and artwork that surrounds the hotel. Every moment at the InterContinental Phuket is crafted for the experience of “heaven on earth” and balance between the elements. The whole effect is to leave guests welcomed, rested, and refreshed after a long journey.

Rooms

The InterContinental Phuket’s ocean-facing rooms, suites, and villas are among the most coveted within the property. The ocean views in particular face Kamala Beach on Phuket’s western coast, known for its spectacular sunsets.

Of the ocean-facing accommodations, however, the most luxurious among them are the villas, which come with 1, 2, or 3 bedrooms as well as private pools, bathtubs, and butler service. The 3-bedroom villas in particular come with 2 king beds and 2 single beds, ideal for families who want to enjoy peace and quiet during their Phuket vacation.

The Beachside Suite comes with direct access to Kamala Beach as well as a spacious living area. This suite is a luxurious option for couples who enjoy walks on the beach at sunset and intimate moments of tranquility.

Another ideal choice for couples is the Lagoon Pool Suites, which do not face the ocean but come with direct access to the semi-private lagoon pool and a fully private hot tub. These one-bedroom suites on the ground floor also come with ensuite bathrooms, which are perfect for bubbly soaks in the standing bathtubs.

And while not all Premium guest rooms come with ocean views, the ones who do have a balcony from which to enjoy the amazing vistas of the Andaman Sea. Situated among the higher floors, these guest rooms have opulent ensuite bathrooms with bathtubs, as well as built-in TVs in the living areas.

The remaining rooms and suites at the InterContinental have views of the garden, the main swimming pool, or the surrounding mountains. All of these rooms come with basic amenities such as free wi-fi, coffee machines, and Byredo toiletries.

Facilities

Regardless of view, guests of premium rooms, suites, and villas come with access to Club InterContinental, which comes with its own private lounge, deck, and swimming pool separate from the rest of the hotel. The facilities and benefits of Club InterContinental include butler service, afternoon tea, sunset cocktails, and a choice to have breakfast at either the lounge or at Pinto, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant.

For fine dining, the InterContinental has three standout restaurants helmed by acclaimed chefs. The Southern Thai menu at Jaras incorporates the consumption of invasive plant and animal species in Thailand while showcasing the best produce from local farms, while the innovative gastronomy at hom includes the use of fermentation to bring out the best flavor from food. Rounding out the fine-dining roster is Tengoku, an Osaka-style teppanyaki restaurant that focuses on refined preparations.

Another dining option for guests is the casual 333 on The Beach. This al fresco dining area is home to an innovative menu of plant-based cuisine that’s sourced from the hotel’s own farms, as well as a selection of grilled Thai seafood and premium meats.

Apart from the dining options, another standout facility at the hotel is the Sati Spa, which provides tailor-made wellness journeys that focus on mindfulness and serenity. Apart from massages, body treatments, and facials, there are immersive and all-inclusive treatment packages that even incorporate exercise and refreshments into the wellness approach.

Exercise is also part of the agenda at the hotel’s Fitness Center, which features equipment from LifeFitness including cardio machines, weights, and a recumbent bike. The view from the fitness center showcases the striking architecture within the property.

No discussion of the InterContinental’s facilities is complete without covering the five swimming pools on the property. Apart from the Club InterContinental pool, the Lagoon Pool, and the Serene Pool for select guests, there is also the Infinity pool with a striking view of the mountains and the Sawan Pavilion, and the Beach Pool facing the Andaman Sea.

The Les Clefs D’Or concierge services at InterContinental Phuket are experts in crafting unique experiences of Phuket for guests. Among the curated experiences offered are a bike tour around Kamala Beach, hikes to nearby viewpoints, and visits to museums. Concierges can also make arrangements for guests to visit beach clubs such as Café Del Mar, also on Kamala Beach.

Concierges can also arrange for chartered yacht trips on board the W. J. Lip, the hotel’s own exclusive Princess 78 luxury yacht. The yacht can be used for island-hopping tours around Phuket’s neighboring archipelagoes, and includes adventure gear such as jet skis, paddle boards, underwater scooters, and snorkeling equipment. On-board gourmet meals, hotel-grade cabins, and bespoke itineraries enhance the yacht experience for guests.

Getting There

The InterContinental Phuket is located on the shores of Kamala Beach on the western shores of Phuket. The resort is almost an hour’s drive away from Phuket International Airport, and is not too far from Kamala’s renowned Cafe del Mar Beach Club.
