The Upper House

Admiralty, Hong kong

The Epitome of elevated hospitality

Occupying floors 38 to 49 of Pacific Place in Hong Kong Island’s Admiralty area, The Upper House embodies every definition of “elevated luxury.” The five-star hotel’s location hovers over the urban hustle, and each room and suite comes with breathtaking views of the Hong Kong skyline.

The Upper House has distinguished itself from other contemporary boutique hotels through its memorable design, owing to the creative vision of Hong Kong-born architect Andre Fu. Every part of the hotel, from the public areas to the rooms and suites, eschews ornate decor in favor of minimalist lines, muted hues, and open spaces.

With features such as sophisticated dining options, wellness programs, and spacious rooms complete with elegant ensuites, The Upper House continues to build its reputation as the next “must-visit” hotel in Hong Kong.

At The Hotel

Step through the Thomas Hetherwick-designed “Stone Curtain” facade at street level and into a whole world of elegance. Built around the aesthetic of an “upward journey,” The Upper House stands out for its crisp modern design and spacious rooms.

Modern values of minimalism and sustainability guide The Upper House, from the clean lines of the furniture to the use of natural materials in the architectural features. Here, luxury is balanced with tranquility and comfort, with design and consideration for the environment as part of its future-facing vision.

By foregoing extravagance in favor of serenity, The Upper House establishes its own identity as a new breed of boutique hotel—one that provides the most amount of comfort even in its seeming simplicity.

Rooms

Each of the hotel’s 117 spacious rooms start at 730 sq ft, the largest in Hong Kong. They feature bespoke natural materials, calming color palettes, and stunning views of Victoria Harbour or the city skyline, all designed to feel like a private residence rather than a typical hotel room.

Both the Studio 70 and Studio 80 guest rooms come with cozy modern furniture, private dressing rooms, and elegant amenities, with Studio 70 rooms boasting of full harbor views from the bedroom and bathroom. Studio 80 rooms also include work desks and a choice of mountain or city views, with sculptures decorating the well-appointed bathrooms.

The Upper Suites are defined by their use of wood, glass, and stone as materials of choice. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a birds’-eye view of Hong Kong, with wooden architecture details grounding the other style elements throughout the room. The living spaces carry books in art and design, and the soft bed linens provide comfort for a good night’s sleep.

For a one-of-a-kind experience of quiet luxury, the Penthouse offers the intimacy of a private residence with the creature comforts of a hotel. Plush seating by the windows compliments the panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and the spaciousness of the living area, while two king beds ensure a good night’s sleep for up to 4 adults.

Finally, the Andre Fu Suite serves as both luxurious accommodation and intimate event space, with up to 182 square meters of floor space, a dining table for up to 18 guests, and furniture and tableware from the architect-designer’s own signature line. Twin massage beds occupy the spa area, while the suite’s lone king bed is adorned with down bedding.

Facilities

Tying together the public and private areas of The Upper House is the breathtaking design, which takes inspiration from modern Asian influences. Materials such as bamboo, limestone, glass, and even lacquered paper are used throughout the hotel to create a modern atmosphere, with the fragrance of ginger and verbena wafting through the air.

While the rooms from floors 38 to 48 get much attention from luxury travelers, the real action at The Upper House happens on the sixth floor. Here, The Lawn takes center stage, where the outdoor lounging areas lend themselves well to picnic-style alfresco dining and cocktails.

Tucked away from The Lawn on the 6th floor is The Tea Room, separated from the rest of the 6th floor space with timber panels that evoke the hotel’s entrance. The Andre Fu-designed indoor space provides a cozy retreat for the times when spending time indoors with a hot drink, a plate of snacks, and good company is the best option.

The 49th floor is home to Salisterra, guided by The Upper House’s culinary director Ricardo Chaneton. The pan-Mediterranean restaurant offers menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even afternoon tea, as well as offerings for kids. A private dining room, complete with a marble-topped table, evokes the intimacy of in-kitchen dining with elevated interiors.

Also on the 49th floor is The Green Room, a bar that evokes the atmosphere of backstage after-parties. Here cocktails are kept uncomplicated and Mediterranean-inspired bar bites lend a sophisticated touch. Friday nights at The Green Room also feature regular gigs from DJs and surprise guests for a night’s worth of lively entertainment.

Services

Guests who prefer room service would be delighted to learn about the in-room dining options, which can be customized with the help of hotel staff to include healthier items. Conceptualized with the same chef-level attention to detail, the in-room dining menu provides guests with the perfect opportunity to savor their meals privately.

The Upper House offers residencies with top wellness experts to consult with guests on topics such as nutrition, exercise, and mind-body alignment. Sound baths and yoga classes are also available at the hotel, as is a comprehensive anti-aging program that involves red light therapy.

Spa treatments are also available as in-room services, which complement the natural lighting and refreshing atmosphere of The Upper House’s rooms. Treatments include massages, facials, and styling for hair and makeup—an ideal way to get ready for a night out in the town or a special event.

Among the event spaces available at the hotel are The Lawn, which can host pop-ups, and The Sky Lounge on the 49th floor, which has hosted art exhibitions and special events featuring Hong Kong’s tastemakers. Both penthouses can also be booked for private events, and in-house event planners can arrange major events such as weddings.

For kids, The Upper House also offers passes to a dedicated play space in the building’s own Pacific Place Apartments. The play space also offers sessions for music classes, kids’ yoga, and child-safe spa treatments for an extra charge.

And for shoppers and sightseers, there’s no need to go too far. The luxury boutiques of Pacific Place are just an elevator ride away, and the Central and Wanchai areas can be accessed through the tram line. The Admiralty neighborhood is also home to tea shops and public parks where guests can capture picture-perfect moments.

The experience doesn’t stop there, either. The Upper House sells candles and room fragrances featuring the same ginger-verbena blend used throughout the hotel for setting the overall ambience. The hotel’s line of logo merchandise also includes yoga mats, tote bags, bathrobes, power banks, and pajamas.

The Welcoming Experience

With design elements that simultaneously evoke serenity and sophistication, The Upper House has established itself as one of Hong Kong’s rising stars in the hospitality industry. But the hotel is more than just its design; it’s about thoughtful touches like complimentary yoga sessions, unlimited filtered water, and spaces designed for intimate conversation.

Even with all the surrounding glass and stone, The Upper House is a surprising sanctuary from a hectic urban lifestyle. It’s easy to feel at home in every room, whether you’re putting in remote work at your desk, getting massages from an in-house specialist, or simply savoring the views from the comfort of your window-side sofa.

There’s more to discover about The Upper House with every stay, and its reputation as one of Hong Kong’s emerging stars in the hotel industry continues to grow with time.
